Skin feeling dull, irritated, or flaky? The natural barrier of your skin may be undernourished or dehydrated.

How We Can Help You Manage Dry Skin

More about dry skin and how to treat it

Dry Skin (or Xeroderma) is a common skin condition that can be caused by a range of internal and external factors including chronic disease, hormonal changes, environmental exposures, dietary deficiencies, daily stress, or even taking frequent hot showers. Additionally, as we age our skin becomes less effective at producing the lipids that are needed to retain moisture, which can make you more prone to symptoms such as rough patches and itchiness.

Fighting the symptoms of dry skin can be a frustrating battle, but fortunately there are many treatments and products available that can help restore hydration and improve your skin barrier function. The winter months are especially harsh on dry skin, so it’s important to give your skin the extra support it needs. There are a few lifestyle changes you can make to help retain optimal moisture throughout the season.

Dry skin can present in different ways and be caused by a wide range of factors, so it’s important to discuss your symptoms with your clinician. Your Modern Age clinician can help to identify the root cause of your dry skin and work with you to develop a treatment plan to alleviate your symptoms.

    Questions about Dry Skin

What are the main symptoms of Dry Skin?
Dry Skin has many symptoms including loss of tightness, itching, flaking, irritation, fine lines or cracks, rough texture, redness and more.
Are creams the only thing that will help with my symptoms?
Topical creams are not the only thing that can help alleviate symptoms, Dry Skin can be managed, depending on the severity of symptoms, with treatments such as LED Light Therapy and HydraFacial.  LED light therapy increases blood flow to the treated area, increasing the hydration level of the skin. Hydrafacial achieves significant levels of hydration via its multi-step process which first opens the pores of the skin via peels and extractions, and then applies a deeply hydrating serum comprised of hyaluronic acid and other hydrating peptides.  There are also certain lifestyle changes that can help to manage symptoms such as diet and exercise. We would recommend meeting with one of our clinicians to find out what might make sense for you.
What’s the difference between Dry Skin and Eczema?
Eczema (or Atopic Dermatitis) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that presents symptoms similar to Dry Skin, such as redness and itchiness. Dry Skin can be a trigger for Eczema and vice versa, which makes it difficult to diagnose. It’s important to speak with your clinician about your specific symptoms to ensure you are using the correct treatment.
Would the Skin Health IV be a good treatment for someone with dry skin?
Our Skin Health IV Drip contains biotin and vitamin C, which have been clinically proven to help improve the appearance of skin and reduce visible signs of aging. Biotin, an essential vitamin for energy production, helps with the formation of fatty acids that work to nourish skin and improve hydration and smoothness. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrient that helps improve skin tone and texture, reduce signs of aging, and increase hydration.
I am interested in working on my wrinkles but also have dry skin. Are there treatments available to me?
Topical retinoids that target wrinkles can also make you prone to dry skin and peeling. Alternative treatment methods such as Botox® and wrinkle relaxers can produce similar results without drying out your skin. Talk to your Modern Age clinician about your dry skin concerns to build out a treatment plan that’s right for you.
