HORMONE OPTIMIZATION

The thyroid gland makes two hormones that are essential for all cells in your body to function: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Our Thyroid medications restore these hormone levels to improve energy, metabolism, skin, hair, and more.

  • What to expect
    Results:
  • While some people report feeling better within a week of taking thyroid hormone therapy, others need to be on the medication for a few weeks to experience improvement.

  • After 6 weeks of treatment, you should experience substantial improvements in your symptoms and overall health.

  • Downsides:
Thyroid hormone therapy is a generally well-tolerated medication, but getting the right dose is essential. If you’re not taking the correct dose, you might experience signs of hyperthyroidism (or overactive thyroid) which include:
  • Anxiety

  • Increased heart rate and heart palpitations

  • Diarrhea

  • Jitteriness

  • The prescription you need, without the hassle

    • Diagnostic testing

    • Speedy shipping

Depending on your hormone levels, we'll prescribe the specific thyroid medication that's best for you and send it straight to your home.

    • Ongoing support

Your Modern Age clinician will check in with you to test where your hormone levels are to ensure you have optimal dosage.

    How to use

    When
It's best to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. You’ll want to wait 30-60 minutes before eating anything, since food can affect how the medication is absorbed.
    How
Take the amount directed by your clinician. Be sure to avoid other medications that prevent absorption, such as antacids.
    Good to know
At Modern Age, we offer three different types of thyroid medication: Synthroid (Levothyroxine), Armour Thyroid, and Cytomel. Your clinician will help determine which one is best for you.

    What our experts say

The thyroid gland is critical for overall health, regulating many bodily functions by constantly releasing thyroid hormones into the bloodstream. If your thyroid is less active and the thyroid hormones are low, anything else you do to address your symptoms is going to be limited.

    Common Questions

I think I have symptoms of low thyroid, but when my thyroid has been tested I was told that everything looked normal. Does this mean I don't have a thyroid problem?
Some people experience the symptoms of hypothyroidism — tiredness, weight gain, feeling cold — when their bloodwork is still in normal range. So if your hormone levels are technically within normal boundaries, your Modern Age clinician can work with you to distinguish if you can still benefit from thyroid hormone therapy.
How long will I need to be on thyroid support?
Hypothyroidism is often something that people will experience over the course of their lifetime. In order to give your body the tools it needs to function properly, it might be beneficial for you to keep taking thyroid homeone therapy long term. Your Modern Age clinician can help you understand the right cadence and duration for your specific situation.
What does research say about thyroid hormone therapy?
Thyroid medications are well-tolerated and well-studied for long-term use, so you can feel confident in taking a medication to help balance your thyroid hormones.
