Dr. Shoma Datta-Thomas, MD FACOG | Feb 23, 2023
At Modern Age, we feel that it’s really important to include pelvic and sexual health issues in our holistic healthcare model. Urinary Incontinence, or bladder leakage is a major women’s health issue that is very commonly reported by customers - you’re not alone, and you don’t have to live with it.
One method that has a very promising, non-invasive way of addressing urinary incontinence is electromagnetic therapy focused at the pelvic floor - the Emsella Chair treatment at Modern Age.
This is a great option to consider over invasive surgery but more proactive than just using an absorptive pad. The treatment focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding tissue to regain some of that bladder control we lose naturally with age, with the secondary outcome of improved vaginal sensitivity and natural lubrication.
Over the course of 6 sessions, studies and our patient feedback show an increase in strength in the pelvic floor leading to fewer episodes of urine leakage. This means you can do jumping jacks, sneeze, or cough without having to worry about where the next bathroom is. This is an important and effective way to change your quality of life, improve your outlook on aging, and change your longevity in the long run.
How does the chair work?
The chair has an internal coil which is in the middle of the seat that delivers electromagnetic energy to the pelvic floor.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment is not painful and it’s not a sexual sensation. The sensation you’ll feel is a direct contraction of the pelvic floor muscles - comparable to 11,000 kegels in a single 28 minute session
Can I wear my normal clothes?
Yes. You can wear your normal clothes, but we do advise not having any metal objects on you or using your phone. If you have any metal implants or something like the copper IUD, this is not a good fit.
How long does it take?
Each session is 28 minutes - a quick lunchtime treatment. No preparation or downtime.
How often do I need to get the treatment?
The ideal recommendation is 6 sessions, and you can do up to two sessions per week.
What type of person is the chair best for?
We like to emphasize that while the most common customer is someone who’s had a pregnancy or vaginal delivery - incontinence can affect anyone with change of natural aging. This treatment is for anyone who’s having urine leakage or urgency.
