More About GLP-1s and Weight Loss Medications

GLP-1 medications are a class of FDA-approved prescriptions that play a crucial role in managing multiple health issues, particularly weight gain. These drugs work by binding to the GLP-1 receptor and stimulating insulin release, helping regulate blood sugar levels.

Semaglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 drug that has been approved for weight loss. Patients taking semaglutide can expect to lose up to 15% of their body weight with once-weekly injections over 68 weeks. This class of drugs has also been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in adults with type-2 diabetes.

Two of the leading GLP-1 medications are Wegovy and Ozempic. Wegovy is approved for weight loss, while Ozempic can be used for weight loss in some instances. Whether Wegovy or Ozempic is the right choice for you will be determined by your Modern Age clinician after you complete your initial baseline diagnostic (our Aging Wellness Assessment). Additionally, your clinician will work with you to find the right Ozempic or Wegovy dosage.

The cost of GLP-1 medications varies and depends on insurance coverage. Modern Age’s Optimization Program starts with our Aging Wellness Assessment, which includes an extensive baseline diagnostic panel and costs $500. Our personalized 6-month program costs $500; your Modern Age clinician will prescribe GLP-1 therapy if appropriate. The cost of the GLP-1 medications themselves is not included in this price. If your insurance does not cover GLP-1 medications, the cost of Ozempic can range from $900-$1200, and the cost of Wegovy can range from $900-$1600 for a monthly prescription.

GLP-1 medications offer a safe and effective solution for weight loss. If you want to explore this option, purchase our Aging Wellness Assessment to get started, or schedule a free consultation to learn more.
