    The basics

    What to expect
  • For some women, estrogen treatment benefits can be noticed in as little as 1-2 weeks, but it can take a few months to experience full benefits.

  • It can also take some time to optimize dosage for your body — your Modern Age clinician will work with you to understand how it's working and adjust as needed.

  • Benefits
  • Reduces vaginal dryness

  • Reduces irritation and pain during sex

  • Increases lubrication to aid sex

  • Decreases vaginal infections

  • Helps prevent UTIs

  • Who it's for
Vaginal Estradiol Cream can be beneficial for women experiencing vaginal dryness, which sometimes leads to pain or discomfort during sex. This is a common symptom of estrogen deficiency for women approaching menopause and onward. However, since most of the estrogen will stay in the vaginal tissue, this type of treatment will not help with hot flashes or osteoporosis.
    Side Effects
Vaginal Estradiol Cream is generally well tolerated, and side effects are uncommon. In clinical studies some women experienced headaches, hives increase in vaginal discharge, and breast tenderness, but these symptoms were mild and rare.

    Common Questions

Does estrogen treatment increase the risk of breast cancer or other cancers?
No. Recent analyses has revealed that estrogen may in fact help prevent breast cancer, which refuted the 2002 report by Women's Health Initiative that estrogen treatment could increase the risk of this disease. Plus, the original study was assessing oral treatments that are rarely used anymore.
How long will I need to be on estrogen therapy?
There is no set time to stop taking estrogen. In some cases, it's only until hormone levels are good and vaginal health is improved. In others, it might be beneficial to continue taking it on an ongoing basis to ensure your hormone levels remain properly balanced. Your clincian will work with you closely to ensure you stay on estrogen for the right amount of time for you.
How do I choose between Bi-Est Cream and other estrogen options, like the Estrogen Patch?
Bi-Est Cream contains two forms of estrogen — estradiol and estriol. Estradiol is the much more potent of the two. For some women it can be beneficial to blend a gentler estrogen like estriol to reduce side effects. This combination of estrogen can be adjusted to precisely meet the needs of your body. If you have struggled with side effects when using estrogen patches or other forms of hormone therapy, Bi-Est may be a good option for you.
    Are estrogen pills an option?
We do not offer estrogen treatment in pill form, primarily because there is suggestive evidence that taking oral estrogen is more strongly associated with heightened risk of blood clots and stroke as compared to estrogen patches or creams. Non-oral routes like this cream bypasses this risk.
Why should I get estrogen treatment with Modern Age, when I could also get it from OBGYN or Primary Care?
OB/GYNs are reproductive health experts, not necessarily hormonal health experts. Modern Age clinicians are specifically trained on hormonal health and the effects it has on your body as you get older. We also perform hormone diagnostic testing to guide our treatments, which allows us to offer a personalized experience with effective results.
